BreakOUT ATL

Official Competition Rules & Regulations

Organized by OUT Local

BreakOUT ATL is a multi-round LGBTQIA+ performing arts competition created by OUT Local to discover, celebrate, and showcase talented performers throughout Georgia.

The competition welcomes artists across a wide range of performing arts disciplines, including drag, burlesque, singing, dancing, comedy, acting, and other forms of live entertainment.

These Official Competition Rules govern eligibility, participation, judging, voting, advancement, prizes, contestant responsibilities, and general competition procedures.

By applying to and participating in BreakOUT ATL, contestants agree to comply with these rules and all applicable requirements communicated by OUT Local.

SECTION 1: JUDGING & ADVANCEMENT

1.1 Competition Structure

BreakOUT ATL will feature 60 contestants competing across three live audition nights, with a maximum of 20 contestants per night.

The competition will consist of the following stages:

  • Auditions: 60 contestants compete across three audition nights.

  • Semifinals: 20 contestants advance.

  • Finals: 10 contestants advance.

  • Top 3 Showdown: Three finalists compete for the grand prize.

  • Grand Prize Winner: One overall winner is selected.

The 20 semifinalists will be selected through three advancement methods:

  • 15 contestants selected by judges (five per audition night).

  • 3 contestants selected through live audience voting (one per audition night).

  • 2 contestants selected through Instagram social media wildcard voting.

1.2 Judging Criteria & Scoring

Each audition performance will be evaluated by three judges.

Contestants will be scored in five categories:

  1. Talent: Technical ability, skill, and execution of the performance.

  2. Stage Presence: Confidence, command of the stage, and ability to engage an audience.

  3. Originality: Creativity, individuality, and artistic approach.

  4. Entertainment Value: Overall impact, audience engagement, and effectiveness of the performance.

  5. Personality: Individual expression, authenticity, charisma, and connection.

Each judge will award between 1 and 10 points in each category.

The maximum possible score is 50 points per judge, for a combined maximum of 150 points across three judges.

The five highest-scoring eligible contestants from each audition night will automatically advance to the semifinals.

Judges will evaluate contestants based on the established criteria regardless of their performance discipline, previous experience, or social media following.

1.3 Live Audience Wildcards

One additional contestant from each audition night will advance to the semifinals through live audience voting, for a total of three audience wildcard selections.

Voting will take place through the OUT Local app and will be restricted to eligible audience members who are physically present at the event and have completed the official check-in process.

The following voting requirements apply:

  • Each eligible attendee must cast exactly three votes for three different eligible contestants.

  • Multiple votes for the same contestant are not permitted.

  • Ballots containing fewer than three distinct eligible contestant selections will be considered invalid and will not be counted.

  • The five contestants already selected to advance through judges' scores will be removed from the eligible voting options before audience voting begins.

  • Each eligible attendee may submit only one valid ballot per audition night.

  • Contestants may encourage supporters to attend and vote, provided all voting rules are followed.

  • Fraudulent voting, duplicate ballots, purchased votes, and attempts to manipulate voting results are prohibited.

The eligible contestant receiving the highest number of valid audience votes will receive that night's audience wildcard position.

In the event of a tie, the contestant with the higher combined judges' score will advance.

If the OUT Local app experiences technical difficulties, the backup voting procedures established in Section 6.4 will apply.

1.4 Social Media Wildcards

Following each audition night, five contestants will advance through judges' scores and one additional contestant will advance through live audience voting.

The 15 contestants not selected by the judges will be ranked from 1 to 15 based on their combined judges' scores.

After the audience wildcard winner is determined, that contestant will be removed from consideration for social media wildcard nomination.

The three highest-ranked remaining contestants will become that audition night's Social Media Wildcard Nominees.

Each audition night will produce three nominees, resulting in nine total Social Media Wildcard Nominees across all three audition nights.

Instagram Voting

Following the completion of all three audition nights, OUT Local will publish official Instagram promotional posts featuring the nine nominees.

OUT Local will invite each respective contestant to collaborate on their official voting post.

The social media wildcard voting period will last 72 consecutive hours, beginning at the officially announced voting start time.

The following requirements apply:

  • Votes will be counted through comments on official OUT Local Instagram wildcard voting posts.

  • Each Instagram account may cast only one valid vote across the entire social media wildcard competition.

  • Additional comments from the same account will not count as additional votes.

  • Only comments submitted during the official 72-hour voting period will be eligible.

  • Fraudulent accounts, automated voting, purchased engagement, and other attempts to manipulate results are prohibited.

  • OUT Local reserves the right to review and exclude suspected fraudulent or ineligible votes.

  • Contestants are encouraged, but not required, to accept Instagram collaboration invitations or promote their nomination.

At the conclusion of the voting period, the two nominees receiving the highest number of valid Instagram votes will advance to the semifinals.

These two contestants will complete the 20-person semifinal lineup.

1.5 Alternate Contestants

Two eligible alternate contestants will be designated for each audition night, resulting in six designated alternates across the competition.

Alternates may be offered an opportunity to advance if a selected contestant withdraws, becomes ineligible, is disqualified, or cannot participate in a subsequent round.

Alternate selection and replacement procedures will follow Section 6.8.

Being designated as an alternate does not guarantee advancement or future participation.

1.6 Voting Integrity

All competition voting must be conducted fairly and in accordance with the established voting procedures.

The following activities are prohibited:

  • Creating or using fraudulent accounts to manipulate voting.

  • Purchasing votes or using automated voting systems.

  • Submitting multiple ballots when only one is permitted.

  • Attempting to interfere with vote counting or verification.

  • Intentionally misrepresenting eligibility or voting procedures.

OUT Local reserves the right to investigate suspected voting irregularities, exclude invalid votes, and take appropriate action against individuals or contestants attempting to manipulate results.

All voting results remain subject to verification by OUT Local.

1.7 Semifinal Round

A total of 20 contestants will compete in the semifinals.

Each semifinalist will perform a new or expanded performance within the established three-minute time limit.

Contestants will be evaluated using the same five judging categories established in Section 1.2.

The 10 highest-scoring eligible semifinalists will advance to the finals.

Judging will focus on the quality of each contestant's semifinal performance rather than their previous audition placement, social media popularity, or method of advancement.

1.8 Finals & Top 3 Showdown

The 10 finalists will compete for three positions in the Top 3 Showdown.

Each finalist will present a performance within the established four-minute time limit.

Following the initial finals performances, the live audience will select the three contestants who advance to the Top 3 Showdown through voting conducted in the OUT Local app.

Finals Audience Voting

  • Voting is restricted to eligible audience members physically present at the finale who have completed the official check-in process.

  • Each eligible attendee must cast exactly three votes for three different finalists.

  • Each attendee may submit only one valid ballot.

  • Ballots containing duplicate selections, fewer than three distinct eligible selections, or otherwise invalid votes will not be counted.

  • The three finalists receiving the highest number of valid audience votes will advance to the Top 3 Showdown.

  • In the event of a tie affecting advancement, the contestant with the higher combined judges' score from the initial finals performances will advance, subject to the established tie-breaking procedures.

  • Fraudulent voting, duplicate ballots, and attempts to manipulate results are prohibited.

Top 3 Showdown

The three advancing contestants will each perform one additional number, with a maximum performance time of four minutes.

Following these performances, the judges will determine the overall BreakOUT ATL winner using the established judging criteria and procedures.

Audience voting determines the Top 3 contestants but does not determine the overall grand-prize winner.

1.9 Tie-Breaking & Final Decisions

When combined judges' scores result in a tie affecting advancement, the contestant with the higher Talent category score will receive the higher placement.

If the tie remains unresolved, the judges will deliberate to determine the final placement.

Ties involving live audience voting will be resolved using the contestants' applicable combined judges' scores.

OUT Local is responsible for verifying competition results and administering the established tie-breaking procedures.

Judging and administrative decisions are final for competition purposes, subject to applicable law and the official competition rules.

SECTION 2: CONTESTANT ELIGIBILITY

2.1 Age Requirement

All contestants must be at least 18 years old at the time of participation.

OUT Local reserves the right to request documentation verifying a contestant's age.

All proposed disciplines and performances are subject to application review, venue capabilities, and production requirements.

2.6 Experience Requirements

Performers of all experience levels are welcome to apply.

No professional performance history, previous competition experience, established social media following, or prior awards are required.

First-time performers and established entertainers will be considered through the same application process.

2.7 Contestant Selection

A total of 60 audition contestants will be selected through an application review process.

Selection will prioritize diversity in performance disciplines, creative approaches, artistic expression, and experience levels.

Applications will not be selected solely on a first-come, first-served basis.

OUT Local reserves the right to evaluate applications and determine the final audition lineup.

2.8 Audition Date Assignments

Each contestant may audition only once during the competition.

Applicants will indicate their availability for the scheduled audition dates during the application process.

OUT Local will assign selected contestants to one audition night based on availability, lineup balance, performance disciplines, and production requirements.

Applicants are not guaranteed their preferred audition date.

2.9 Rescheduling & Missed Auditions

Contestant-requested audition rescheduling will not be permitted under any circumstances.

A contestant who fails to attend their assigned audition date will forfeit their audition position.

Late arrivals or missed performances may also result in forfeiture.

OUT Local may fill vacant positions with eligible replacements when reasonably possible.

Organizer-initiated schedule changes are governed separately by Section 6.2.

2.10 Conflicts of Interest

BreakOUT ATL organizers, active competition judges, and their immediate family members are not eligible to compete.

Previous professional collaborations or familiarity with OUT Local, its organizers, or judges do not automatically disqualify a contestant.

Contestants must disclose relationships or circumstances that could present a significant conflict of interest.

Judges with significant personal or financial relationships that could reasonably compromise their impartiality must disclose the conflict and recuse themselves from evaluating the affected contestant.

OUT Local will arrange appropriate independent scoring when necessary.

2.11 Eligibility Verification & Accuracy

Contestants must provide truthful and accurate information throughout the application and competition process.

OUT Local may request reasonable documentation to verify age, Georgia residency, and other objective eligibility requirements.

No proof of LGBTQIA+ identity will be required.

Submitting materially false information or misrepresenting eligibility may result in disqualification following review.

If a contestant is determined to be ineligible after advancement, OUT Local may revoke their placement and offer the position to an eligible replacement in accordance with the official rules.

SECTION 3: PERFORMANCE RULES & REQUIREMENTS

3.1 Performance Time Limits

All contestants must adhere to the maximum performance time established for each stage of the competition.

  • Auditions: Maximum of 2 minutes per performance.

  • Semifinals: Maximum of 3 minutes per performance.

  • Finals: Maximum of 4 minutes per performance.

  • Top 3 Showdown: Maximum of 4 minutes per performance.

Contestants are responsible for preparing performances that fit within their assigned time limits.

Production reserves the right to end performances that exceed the allotted time.

3.2 Music & Audio Requirements

Contestants may perform using prerecorded music, live vocals, spoken word, or other approved audio formats appropriate to their performance discipline.

Contestants using prerecorded music must submit their final performance tracks or mixes to production 3 days prior to their scheduled competition date.

All submitted audio must meet the following requirements:

  • Audio files must be submitted in MP3 or WAV format.

  • Files must be clearly labeled with the contestant's stage name and competition round.

  • Contestants are responsible for ensuring their audio is complete, properly edited, and within the established performance time limit.

  • Streaming music directly from personal devices during performances will not be permitted.

  • Any special audio requirements, including microphones, instruments, or additional sound equipment, must be communicated to production in advance.

Contestants who do not require prerecorded music are not required to submit an audio track.

Changes to submitted audio after the deadline will require production approval.

3.3 Props, Equipment & Special Effects

Contestants are permitted to incorporate standard performance props, costumes, and accessories into their acts, provided they comply with venue regulations and competition safety requirements.

All contestants must disclose their intended props and equipment to OUT Local before their scheduled performance.

Large props, specialized equipment, unusual staging requirements, special effects, or potentially hazardous performance elements must receive advance approval from production.

The following requirements apply:

  • Smoke, fog, liquids, confetti, glitter, and similar effects require advance production approval.

  • Contestants are responsible for ensuring their props and equipment are safe, functional, and appropriate for the venue.

  • Setup and breakdown requirements must be communicated to production in advance.

  • Contestants must remove their props and leave the performance area clear for the next act in an appropriate amount of time.

  • OUT Local reserves the right to prohibit or remove any prop, equipment, or special effect that presents a safety concern or cannot be reasonably accommodated at any time prior to the performance, including up until the performance begins.

Reasonable accessibility accommodations will be considered separately from ordinary production restrictions.

Failure to comply with approved production and safety requirements may result in the modification or cancellation of a performance or disqualification from the competition.

3.4 Costumes, Nudity & Performance Content

BreakOUT ATL celebrates artistic expression, individuality, and the diversity of LGBTQIA+ performing arts.

Contestants are encouraged to express themselves authentically through their performances, including costumes, choreography, language, comedy, storytelling, burlesque, and other creative elements.

Performance content will be permitted to the fullest extent allowed by the hosting venue's policies and applicable local, state, and federal laws.

The following requirements apply:

  • All performances must comply with the specific venue's policies and applicable laws.

  • Contestants must disclose any performance elements that may require special consideration or venue approval in advance.

  • Costumes and performance content may vary between competition rounds depending on the hosting venue's requirements.

  • Any physical interaction with audience members or other individuals must be consensual.

  • OUT Local will communicate applicable venue-specific restrictions to contestants before each competition round.

  • Production reserves the right to require modifications to performances that violate venue policies, applicable laws, or established safety requirements.

No additional blanket restrictions on profanity, suggestive content, or artistic expression will be imposed beyond these requirements.

3.5 Technical Requirements & Stage Setup

OUT Local will communicate the available stage dimensions, sound equipment, microphones, lighting, and other technical resources for each competition round.

Contestants must disclose technical needs beyond the standard equipment provided by production, including musical instruments, additional microphones, specialized lighting, projection, or unusual staging arrangements.

All special technical requests must be submitted at least 7 days before the contestant's scheduled performance.

Requests are subject to production approval, venue capabilities, and equipment availability.

If a contestant advances to a subsequent competition round with fewer than 7 days remaining before their scheduled performance, OUT Local may establish an adjusted technical request deadline.

Any adjusted deadline will be communicated to affected contestants.

Contestants are responsible for providing any approved personal instruments, accessories, or specialized equipment not supplied by production.

All contestants must comply with scheduled technical checks, setup procedures, and instructions from production staff.

Reasonable accessibility accommodations will be considered individually and should be communicated as early as possible.

Production cannot guarantee that every requested technical arrangement can be accommodated.

3.6 Contestant Arrival, Check-In & Rehearsals

All contestants must arrive at their assigned venue and complete check-in with OUT Local production staff at least 60 minutes before scheduled showtime.

Production may assign earlier call times when additional technical preparation or rehearsals are necessary.

Contestants must:

  • Check in with production staff upon arrival.

  • Arrive with their costumes, props, equipment, and performance materials ready.

  • Attend required production briefings and sound checks.

  • Remain available in the designated holding contestant area until their performance.

  • Follow the performance order and instructions provided by production staff.

Contestants who arrive late, miss their assigned performance, or fail to comply with required check-in procedures may forfeit their opportunity to compete.

Rehearsal opportunities, sound checks, and stage access will be determined by production and communicated in advance.

Individual stage rehearsals will not be available until the semifinals and finals rounds.

3.7 Performance Order & Lineup Changes

OUT Local will determine the official performance order for each competition round.

Performance order will be established at production's discretion based on show flow, technical requirements, performance disciplines, venue logistics, and other production considerations.

Contestants are required to perform in their assigned order unless a change is authorized by production.

The following rules apply:

  • Contestants may not independently exchange performance slots with another contestant.

  • Requests for changes to the performance order must be submitted to production and are not guaranteed.

  • Production reserves the right to adjust the lineup to accommodate technical requirements, accessibility needs, venue limitations, or unforeseen circumstances.

  • Contestants must remain prepared to perform when called by production staff.

  • Performance order will not provide any additional points, voting privileges, or preferential treatment in judging.

3.8 Contestant Conduct & Professionalism

BreakOUT ATL is committed to providing a respectful, inclusive, and professional environment for all contestants, judges, staff, volunteers, and audience members.

All contestants are expected to:

  • Treat fellow contestants, judges, production staff, venue employees, and attendees with respect.

  • Harassment, bullying, threats, discriminatory behavior, or intimidation will not be tolerated.

  • Follow instructions from OUT Local production staff and comply with venue policies.

  • Respect other contestants' performances, costumes, props, equipment, and personal belongings.

  • Refrain from deliberately disrupting another contestant's performance or interfering with the judging or voting process.

  • Maintain professional behavior during rehearsals, performances, backstage activities, and official competition events.

  • Avoid participating while impaired in a manner that compromises safety or the ability to perform.

Contestants may respectfully express concerns or disagreements with production decisions but must not engage in threatening, abusive, or disruptive conduct.

OUT Local reserves the right to investigate reported misconduct and determine appropriate disciplinary action on a case-by-case basis, considering the nature and severity of the violation.

Disciplinary measures may include verbal or written warnings, required corrective action, removal from an event, or disqualification from the competition.

Serious misconduct may result in immediate removal and disqualification without a prior warning.

SECTION 4: PROMOTION, PUBLICITY & MEDIA

4.1 Contestant Promotion & Social Media Participation

BreakOUT ATL is designed to celebrate LGBTQIA+ performing artists, increase their visibility, and introduce audiences to Atlanta's creative community.

OUT Local will provide contestants with official promotional materials, competition announcements, and social media assets.

  • Contestants must not intentionally misrepresent competition rules, voting procedures, prizes, or results.

  • Contestants may encourage supporters to attend events, download OUT Local, and participate in eligible voting opportunities.

This includes contestant-created BreakOUT ATL materials submitted to OUT Local or otherwise licensed for its use, to the extent the contestant has the necessary rights.

Contestants retain ownership of their original creative work.

Participation does not transfer exclusive ownership of their performances, original music, choreography, or other independently created intellectual property to OUT Local.

Contestants are responsible for disclosing any third-party restrictions affecting the recording or publication of their performances.

Acceptance of these media terms is a condition of participating in BreakOUT ATL.

4.3 Confidentiality

Contestants may freely share their participation, experiences, performances, competition results, and advancement announcements on their personal social media accounts and other platforms.

Contestants are expected to maintain confidentiality regarding nonpublic information obtained through their participation in BreakOUT ATL.

Confidential information includes:

  • Private judging discussions, deliberations, and scoring information not publicly disclosed.

Contestants may not intentionally disclose confidential information without authorization.

Nothing in this section restricts contestants from discussing publicly announced results, sharing their own experiences, reporting misconduct, or exercising legally protected rights.

SECTION 5: PRIZES, PAYMENTS & WINNER OBLIGATIONS

5.1 Grand Prize

The overall winner of BreakOUT ATL will receive the following grand prize package:

  • $5,000 USD cash prize.

  • A cruise certificate provided by Big Gay Cruise (BGC). See Section 5.2 for specific prize details, conditions, and limitations.

  • An opportunity to perform their own show aboard Big Gay Cruise, subject to final approval by BGC. See Section 5.2.1 for conditions and limitations.

  • An additional, undisclosed prize opportunity provided by Out Front Theatre Company, subject to Out Front Theatre Company's final approval. Specific details will not be marketed or publicly revealed until the competition finale.

The grand-prize winner will be selected by the judges following the Top 3 Showdown, in accordance with the judging and advancement procedures established in Section 1.

Only one contestant will receive the grand prize package. Finalists and semifinalists are not guaranteed monetary compensation or additional prizes unless separately announced by OUT Local.

Prize fulfillment is subject to verification of eligibility, completion of necessary tax documentation, and compliance with the official competition rules.

The winner is responsible for any applicable taxes associated with the prizes.

5.2 Big Gay Cruise Certificate

The overall winner of BreakOUT ATL will receive a cruise certificate provided by Big Gay Cruise (BGC).

The cruise prize includes:

  • A complimentary inside-room cruise certificate for the winner and one guest, valid for a 4–5-night Big Gay Cruise group cruise.

  • Alternatively, the winner may apply a $750 trade-in value toward an upgraded room instead of using the standard inside-room accommodation.

Winner Responsibilities

  • The winner is responsible for applicable cruise taxes.

  • The winner is responsible for all transportation to and from the cruise departure port, including airfare, ground transportation, and related travel expenses for themselves and their guest.

The cruise certificate is subject to Big Gay Cruise's booking terms, availability, and redemption requirements.

The onboard show opportunity is a separate prize component governed by Section 5.2.1.

5.2.1 Big Gay Cruise Onboard Show Opportunity

In addition to the cruise certificate, the BreakOUT ATL grand-prize winner will receive an opportunity to develop and present their own show aboard a Big Gay Cruise sailing.

Due to cruise ship regulations, entertainment policies, technical capabilities, safety requirements, and operational limitations, the proposed show is subject to review and approval by Big Gay Cruise.

Big Gay Cruise retains sole and final authority to approve, modify, or decline the proposed onboard show.

The opportunity is included in the grand prize package; however, an actual onboard performance is not guaranteed.

If Big Gay Cruise determines that the proposed show cannot take place, the winner will retain their cruise certificate under Section 5.2.

The two prize components are independent of one another.

5.3 Cash Prize Payment

The BreakOUT ATL grand-prize winner will receive a cash payment of $5,000 USD within 30 calendar days following the competition finale, provided all required eligibility verification and tax documentation has been completed and submitted in sufficient time for payment processing.

The winner must provide accurate payment information.

If the winner fails to provide the necessary information in a timely manner, payment may be delayed.

The winner is solely responsible for any applicable federal, state, or local taxes associated with the cash prize.

OUT Local will issue any required tax reporting documentation in accordance with applicable law.

5.4 Prize Acceptance, Transferability & Forfeiture

All components of the BreakOUT ATL grand prize package are independent of one another.

Declining, forfeiting, or being unable to redeem one prize component will not affect the winner's eligibility to receive the remaining prize components.

All prizes are strictly non-transferable unless an exception is expressly authorized in writing by the organization responsible for providing that prize.

The following conditions apply:

  • $5,000 Cash Prize: May not be transferred, assigned, or awarded to another individual unless expressly authorized by OUT Local.

  • Big Gay Cruise Certificate: May not be transferred, assigned, sold, or redeemed by another individual unless expressly authorized by Big Gay Cruise (BGC).

  • Big Gay Cruise Onboard Show Opportunity: May not be transferred or assigned to another performer unless expressly authorized by BGC. All performances remain subject to BGC's final approval.

  • Out Front Theatre Company Prize: May not be transferred, assigned, or awarded to another individual unless expressly authorized by Out Front Theatre Company.

Each prize provider retains sole discretion over exceptions to the transferability restrictions for its respective prize. No exception is guaranteed.

The winner must comply with the applicable eligibility, documentation, booking, and redemption requirements established by each prize provider.

Failure to satisfy a specific prize's requirements may result in forfeiture of that prize component without affecting the winner's entitlement to the remaining prizes.

Prizes may not be exchanged for cash, alternative prizes, or additional compensation unless expressly approved by the responsible prize provider.

Any approved transfer remains subject to applicable laws and tax reporting requirements.

5.5 Winner Obligations & Promotional Appearances

The BreakOUT ATL grand-prize winner will be required to participate in two post-competition promotional performance appearances organized by or attended by OUT Local relating to BreakOUT ATL.

These appearances will include:

  • One promotional performance: A live performance at an event benefiting, supporting, or promoting BreakOUT ATL, scheduled between the winner's competition finale and the following year's audition-round announcement.

  • One returning winner performance: A live performance at the following year's BreakOUT ATL finale, subject to the event taking place as planned. No substitute event or performance will be permitted in place of this appearance.

Compensation

The winner will receive $100 USD per completed performance, totaling $200 for both appearances.

This compensation is separate from and in addition to the $5,000 grand prize.

Performance Requirements

  • The winner must be willing and prepared to perform in their respective talent or performance discipline at both appearances.

  • OUT Local and the winner will coordinate scheduling, performance details, and technical requirements in advance.

  • Performances must comply with applicable venue policies, safety requirements, and production guidelines.

  • OUT Local will provide reasonable advance notice of each appearance.

  • Additional promotional appearances or performances beyond the two required appearances will be subject to separate agreement.

These requirements are a condition of accepting the BreakOUT ATL grand-prize winner title and will be disclosed to contestants before entering the competition.

SECTION 6: GENERAL POLICIES, DISPUTES, CANCELLATIONS & LEGAL TERMS

6.1 Rule Enforcement & Production Authority

OUT Local serves as the official organizer and administrator of BreakOUT ATL and is responsible for overseeing competition operations, enforcing the official rules, and maintaining a fair, safe, and professional environment.

All decisions will be made in good faith with consideration for fairness, consistency, contestant safety, and the integrity of the competition.

Production decisions will not arbitrarily alter established judging criteria, advancement procedures, or guaranteed prize terms.

OUT Local will communicate material changes affecting contestants as soon as reasonably possible.

6.2 Event Changes, Postponements & Cancellations

OUT Local reserves the right to modify, postpone, relocate, or cancel any BreakOUT ATL competition event when reasonably necessary due to circumstances including venue availability, safety concerns, severe weather, technical failures, emergencies, or other unforeseen circumstances.

If a scheduled competition event cannot proceed, OUT Local will make reasonable efforts to reschedule the affected event before canceling it entirely.

However, a replacement date is not guaranteed.

In the event of a schedule or venue change, OUT Local will make reasonable efforts to notify affected contestants as soon as possible.

Any modified competition event will remain subject to the official BreakOUT ATL rules unless changes are necessary to accommodate the circumstances.

If a competition event cannot proceed and rescheduling is not reasonably possible, OUT Local will determine the appropriate next steps and communicate them to affected contestants.

6.3 Competition Cancellation & Grand Prize

In the event that BreakOUT ATL cannot be completed due to circumstances beyond OUT Local's reasonable control, OUT Local will make reasonable efforts to postpone or reschedule the remaining competition rounds.

If completing the competition is not reasonably possible, OUT Local may cancel the competition and will communicate that decision to affected contestants.

If the competition is canceled before a winner has been officially selected, no winner will be declared and unawarded prizes will not be distributed, subject to applicable law and any existing binding obligations.

Any grand prize already awarded to an officially declared winner will remain subject to the prize obligations outlined in Section 5.

All decisions regarding competition cancellation and prize fulfillment will be subject to applicable law and the terms of the respective prize providers.

6.4 Technical Failures & Voting Interruptions

OUT Local will make reasonable efforts to maintain reliable and secure voting systems throughout BreakOUT ATL.

If technical difficulties, system outages, or other disruptions interfere with the voting process, OUT Local reserves the right to temporarily pause, extend, or reopen voting as necessary to maintain fairness.

If the OUT Local app cannot be restored during an event, production may implement a secure alternative voting method, including verified paper ballots or another controlled voting system.

The following requirements apply:

  • Backup voting will be restricted to eligible audience members who are physically present at the event and have completed the official check-in process.

  • For audition audience wildcard voting and finals audience voting, each eligible attendee must cast exactly three votes for three different eligible contestants.

  • Ballots containing duplicate selections, fewer than three distinct selections, or votes for ineligible contestants will be considered invalid and will not be counted.

  • Contestants already selected to advance through judges' scores will remain ineligible for audition audience wildcard voting.

  • Each attendee may participate only once in the applicable vote. Production will take reasonable measures to prevent duplicate voting across the app and any backup system.

  • Fraudulent, duplicate, or otherwise invalid ballots may be excluded.

  • Production may investigate and correct verified technical errors affecting vote totals.

  • Affected contestants and voters will be informed of material changes to voting procedures when reasonably possible.

  • Technical difficulties will not automatically result in the disqualification of any contestant.

Backup votes will be verified and counted by authorized OUT Local production staff.

All voting procedures and any necessary adjustments will be administered in good faith to protect fairness and the integrity of the competition.

6.5 Liability, Safety & Assumption of Risk

By applying for and participating in BreakOUT ATL, contestants acknowledge and voluntarily accept the inherent risks associated with live performances, rehearsals, and competition-related activities, including potential physical injury, property damage, or other unforeseen circumstances.

Contestants are responsible for:

  • Performing within their physical abilities and limitations.

  • Using costumes, props, instruments, and personal equipment safely.

  • Following venue safety policies and instructions from production staff.

  • Reporting unsafe conditions or potential hazards to production.

  • Maintaining responsibility for their personal belongings and equipment.

OUT Local will make reasonable efforts to provide a safe competition environment and coordinate appropriate safety procedures with participating venues.

Contestants acknowledge that participation is voluntary and accept responsibility for the inherent risks associated with their own performance activities.

Acceptance of the official BreakOUT ATL competition rules, including this section, is required as part of the contestant application process.

Nothing in these rules excludes or limits liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited under applicable law.

6.6 Changes to Official Competition Rules

OUT Local reserves the right to amend, clarify, modify, or update the official BreakOUT ATL competition rules at its reasonable discretion when necessary for production, administrative, operational, legal, or safety purposes.

Such changes may include adjustments to competition procedures, scheduling, logistics, contestant requirements, or other aspects of the competition.

The following conditions apply:

  • All modifications must be made in good faith and with reasonable consideration for fairness and the integrity of the competition.

  • Material changes affecting contestants will be communicated through official OUT Local communication channels as soon as reasonably possible.

  • Rule changes will not be used to intentionally favor or disadvantage specific contestants.

  • Changes to judging procedures, advancement requirements, or prize commitments must comply with applicable law and any existing binding obligations.

  • Rules will not be applied retroactively to penalize conduct that was permitted under the rules in effect at the time, except where necessary for legal compliance or safety.

OUT Local retains final authority over the interpretation and administration of amended rules, subject to applicable law.

Continued participation following notification of a rule change constitutes acknowledgment of the updated rules to the extent permitted by law.

Where legally required, OUT Local will obtain additional consent.

6.7 Official Communications & Contestant Responsibilities

OUT Local will use the email address provided during the application process as the official communication method for BreakOUT ATL.

Official communications may include audition information, performance schedules, submission deadlines, competition results, rule updates, and other production-related information.

Text messages, social media direct messages, and other communication methods may be used for additional reminders at OUT Local's discretion but are not required.

Contestants are responsible for:

  • Providing accurate and current email contact information.

  • Regularly checking their email, including spam and junk folders, for official competition communications.

  • Responding to required production requests within communicated deadlines.

  • Notifying OUT Local promptly of changes to their email address.

  • Meeting all established competition deadlines and attendance requirements.

OUT Local will make reasonable efforts to communicate important information to contestants in advance.

Failure to review or respond to properly delivered official email communications will not automatically excuse a contestant from established competition requirements.

6.8 Contestant Withdrawal & Replacement

Contestants who voluntarily withdraw from BreakOUT ATL must notify OUT Local as soon as reasonably possible through the official communication method.

A contestant who withdraws, forfeits their position, or is disqualified may lose eligibility to participate in subsequent competition rounds.

OUT Local reserves the right to fill vacant competition positions with eligible replacement contestants when reasonably possible.

The following requirements apply:

  • Designated alternates will receive first priority when filling vacant competition positions. OUT Local will contact the applicable alternates and offer them the opportunity to fill the vacancy.

  • If all applicable designated alternates are unavailable, decline, or are otherwise unable to participate, OUT Local reserves the right to select another eligible replacement contestant at its discretion.

  • Such replacement selections may be based on, but are not limited to, competition results, eligibility, availability, performance discipline, and production needs.

  • Replacement contestants must satisfy all applicable eligibility and competition requirements.

  • Contestants may not independently transfer their competition positions to another individual.

  • Replacement selections must preserve the integrity of the established competition structure and advancement process.

  • OUT Local is not obligated to fill a vacant position when insufficient time or other circumstances make replacement impractical.

  • A contestant who withdraws is not guaranteed reinstatement.

All replacement decisions will be made at OUT Local's discretion, subject to the priority given to designated alternates and applicable competition rules and law.

6.9 Contestant Information & Privacy

OUT Local may collect and process personal information submitted by contestants during the BreakOUT ATL application and competition process.

This information may include names, stage names, contact information, eligibility documentation, performance details, and other information reasonably necessary to administer the competition.

Contestant information may be used for:

  • Reviewing applications and verifying eligibility.

  • Communicating competition schedules, deadlines, and updates.

  • Administering judging, voting, and contestant advancement.

  • Coordinating performances, production requirements, and prize fulfillment.

  • Complying with applicable legal and tax obligations.

OUT Local may share information with authorized production partners, venues, and prize providers when reasonably necessary to administer the competition or fulfill prizes.

Future Marketing & Promotional Communications

Contestants may optionally consent to receive communications about future BreakOUT ATL competitions, casting calls, performance opportunities, and OUT Local promotional events.

  • Marketing consent will be collected separately from acceptance of the official competition rules.

  • Providing marketing consent is optional and will not affect contestant eligibility, judging, or advancement.

  • Contestants may withdraw marketing consent at any time through available unsubscribe methods or by contacting OUT Local.

  • Official communications necessary to administer the current competition may still be sent regardless of marketing preferences.

Publicity and media usage will remain governed by Section 4.2.

OUT Local will handle contestant information in accordance with applicable privacy laws and its published privacy practices.

6.10 Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

The official BreakOUT ATL competition rules will be governed by the applicable laws of the State of Georgia and the United States.

In the event of a dispute arising from the competition, contestants and OUT Local agree to make a reasonable, good-faith effort to resolve the matter through direct communication before initiating formal legal proceedings, to the extent permitted by applicable law.

The parties will provide each other a reasonable opportunity to explain their concerns and explore potential resolutions.

Administrative and production decisions made by OUT Local remain final for competition purposes, as established in Section 6.1, subject to applicable law.

Nothing in this section prevents either party from exercising legally protected rights, seeking urgent legal relief when necessary, or pursuing remedies available under applicable law.

No mandatory arbitration agreement or waiver of the right to bring legal proceedings is established by this section.

6.11 Acceptance of Official Rules

By submitting an application to BreakOUT ATL, applicants acknowledge that they have reviewed, understood, and agreed to comply with the official competition rules.

All applicants must affirmatively accept the official rules through a required checkbox during the application process.

Contestants selected to participate in BreakOUT ATL must also complete a signed electronic acknowledgment confirming their acceptance of the official competition rules before their scheduled audition.

The acknowledgment will include acceptance of all applicable requirements, including contestant eligibility, performance procedures, conduct standards, media permissions, prize conditions, and the assumption-of-risk provisions established in Section 6.5.

OUT Local will maintain records of rule acceptance, including the applicable version of the rules, the date of acceptance, and the contestant's electronic acknowledgment.

Failure to complete the required acknowledgment before auditions may result in forfeiture of the contestant's competition position.

Participation constitutes continued acceptance of properly communicated rule amendments in accordance with Section 6.6, to the extent permitted by applicable law.

Nothing in these rules limits legal rights or protections that cannot lawfully be waived.
