Accessibility Statement
OUT Local™ is committed to making its website, mobile application, content, and services accessible to people with disabilities.
We believe LGBTQ+ events, performers, venues, organizations, and community resources should be discoverable by everyone. We are working to provide an experience that is inclusive, usable, and accessible across a range of devices, browsers, and assistive technologies.
This Accessibility Statement applies to the OUT Local website at outlocal.app and, when available, the OUT Local mobile application.
1. Our Accessibility Goal
OUT Local aims to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.2, Level AA, commonly referred to as WCAG 2.2 AA.
WCAG provides technical guidance for making digital content more accessible to people with disabilities, including people with visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities. Its principles focus on making content perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust.
We view accessibility as an ongoing process rather than a one-time project.
2. Conformance Status
The accessibility of the OUT Local website has not yet been formally assessed against WCAG 2.2 Level AA.
We are currently building and reviewing the website with accessibility in mind, but we cannot claim full or partial conformance until a meaningful evaluation has been completed.
As OUT Local develops, we intend to evaluate the website and mobile application through a combination of automated testing, manual review, keyboard testing, assistive-technology testing, and user feedback.
3. Accessibility Measures
OUT Local is working to support accessibility by:
Using clear headings and a consistent page structure;
Maintaining readable typography and sufficient text size;
Considering color contrast when selecting text, backgrounds, buttons, and links;
Avoiding the use of color alone to communicate important information;
Adding alternative text to meaningful images where possible;
Using descriptive link and button text;
Supporting keyboard navigation where the website platform permits;
Clearly labeling form fields and required information;
Providing understandable instructions and error messages;
Captioning video content when appropriate;
Avoiding unnecessary flashing, blinking, or rapidly moving content;
Testing pages on desktop and mobile devices;
Reviewing accessibility when new pages and features are introduced; and
Providing a way for users to report barriers and request assistance.
4. Compatibility With Browsers and Assistive Technology
OUT Local is intended to work with current versions of commonly used web browsers, operating systems, and assistive technologies.
These may include:
Screen readers;
Screen magnification software;
Voice-control and speech-recognition software;
Keyboard-only navigation;
Browser zoom and text-resizing tools;
Built-in accessibility features available through iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows; and
Other assistive technologies supported by modern browsers and devices.
Accessibility may vary depending on the combination of browser, device, operating system, browser settings, and assistive technology being used.
For the best experience, we recommend using a current version of your browser and operating system.
5. Technical Specifications
The accessibility of the OUT Local website relies on technologies supported by Squarespace and modern web browsers, which may include:
HTML;
CSS;
JavaScript;
WAI-ARIA attributes; and
Browser and device accessibility features.
Some website functions may not operate as intended if JavaScript is disabled or if the browser or device does not support the technologies used by the site.
6. Known and Potential Limitations
Despite our efforts, some areas may not yet be fully accessible.
Potential limitations may include:
User-submitted and partner-submitted content
Photos, event flyers, videos, logos, descriptions, and other materials submitted by venues, performers, promoters, organizations, or users may not always include complete alternative text, captions, transcripts, or accessible formatting.
We may revise, supplement, or remove submitted materials when an accessibility issue is reported or identified.
Event flyers and promotional graphics
Some event information may appear within an image or promotional flyer. When possible, we will also provide important information—such as the event name, date, time, venue, ticket information, and age restrictions—as readable text outside the image.
Third-party services
OUT Local may link to or embed services operated by third parties, including:
Ticketing providers;
Mapping and direction services;
Social-media platforms;
Video platforms;
Form-processing services;
Payment providers; and
Venue or performer websites.
We do not control the accessibility of third-party websites or applications. Their accessibility practices and policies may differ from ours.
Maps and location features
Interactive maps can present accessibility challenges for some users. Where possible, OUT Local will also provide venue names, addresses, event details, and relevant location information in text form.
Older or archived content
Content published before our current accessibility practices were established may not meet the same accessibility standards as newer content.
We will prioritize improvements based on severity, frequency of use, available resources, and user feedback.
7. Requesting an Accessible Alternative
If you cannot access information or complete an action through the website, contact us and describe what you need.
We may be able to provide information through an alternative method, such as:
Plain-text email;
A written description of an image;
Event or venue information in text form;
Assistance completing a venue, performer, or event-submission form;
An accessible document format; or
Another reasonable communication method.
The availability of a particular alternative may depend on the nature of the content and the request.
8. Accessibility Feedback
We welcome feedback about the accessibility of OUT Local.
Please contact us if you:
Encounter an accessibility barrier;
Cannot use a form, button, menu, link, or other feature;
Need information in an alternative format;
Notice an image without an adequate description;
